While they don't sound especially similar, they're in the same territory and have quite a bit in common. The one band/person I'm surprised hasn't come up already is Danzig. Electric Wizard is another band heavily influenced by Electric Wizard with long, slow songs and lots and lots of fuzz.
Getting a little further out, if you want listen to music that was influenced by some of the same music that TON was influenced by, /u/Comedian70 mentioned some great ones, and I'll point out Moonspell, Sentenced, Tiamat, and certain eras of Paradise Lost as being particularly influenced by goth rock, and Moonspell is probably the closest to what you're looking for. If you're into the earlier, more hardcore sound of Type O, there's Peter's previous band Carnivore, which was a really outstanding crossover thrash band. If you want to look into the bands from which Type O drew their sound, there's Black Sabbath (I'm sure you're already well familiar), the Beatles, and /u/Comedian70 mentioned some classic goth rock bands that are very worth checking out (but also often have that glam quality that you have expressed disinterest in). Nobody sounds like that accidentally it's far too unlikely a combination of stylistic palettes, so there's Type O, and there's intentional Type O clones (like APHND and Frown).
TON were really in a league of their own, a combination of hardcore, doom metal, goth rock, the Beatles, and Peter's completely uninimitable voice.
